Welcome From The Secondary School Principal

Welcome to the Secondary School at AISVN. As a community, we combine an appreciation for our host country’s cultural heritage with a dynamic classroom practice that promotes global citizenship. Driven by our mission and vision, we strive to provide a space for learning about ourselves and others. We know to enhance individual and collective knowledge we must think critically and collaboratively. We understand that our purpose of learning in Secondary School is to prepare ourselves to act with compassion, and lead by example in order to build the future we want to see.

We are proud to offer the IB Middle Years and Diploma programs as a continuum of international education. Over the last past 50 years the IB has provided a challenging academic curriculum that serves as outstanding preparation for higher education. The IB programs offer a student-centred approach, focused on developing students intellectually, emotionally, physically, and socially. This approach is coupled with a mission to support the development of internationally minded young people who can work together to create a better and more peaceful world. These programs align with the AISVN mission, and empower students to inquire into a wide range of ideas of local, national, and global significance.

Our values, outlined in the IB Learner Profile are at the heart of everything we do in the Secondary School and our dedicated teachers work collaboratively with our students and parents to ensure every learner is given the opportunity to thrive. The Secondary School is structured so that special attention and emphasis is given to the distinct areas of educational development that our students experience during the beginning, middle, and culminating years of secondary schooling.

In Grade 6 students enter the Secondary School as a continuation of the learning journey from the Primary Year Program. As the students continue in the MYP they are able to further cultivate study habits and skills as well as demonstrate social, emotional, and meta cognitive growth. They begin to understand that learning is purposeful and manageable, as our teachers guide students to build a strong foundation in their approaches to learning. When students complete grade 10, the commentating year of MYP, they are prepared for success in the rigorous curriculum offered in the Diploma programme in Grade 11 and 12.

The IBDP is widely regarded by top universities around the world and offers students an opportunity to join a rigorous international knowledge community that guides them to become critical and reflective leaders. We are tremendously proud that our DP results for the 2021 AISVN graduating class had an average of 33 which is well above the world average of 30.

We believe that every student has a potential for remarkable achievements, and this could require diverse support along the way. That is why we include advisory in our timetable for the holistic development of the student and a time for our students to connect with caring mentors and peers. In addition we are proud of our students support team which offers additional academic behavioural social and emotional assistance for multi-tiered support systems. This team, which includes deans, counselors, English as a Second Language, and Learning Needs specialists has designed support systems to ensure equitable and sustainable learning for all of our students.

At AISVN every moment is an opportunity to apply learning through enquiry and authentic ways and so we encourage all students to do this by taking action and their communities through service learning. We are privileged to engage with students throughout their secondary development as we pursue the common goal of preparing them for success and fulfillment as global leaders.
