Welcome to AISVN Elementary School!

Whether you are a visitor to our website, prospective family or an existing member of our community we welcome you warmly and invite you to explore the information presented here so that you may learn more about what makes AISVN a truly special place.

We are strongly committed to providing all students with a rigorous and holistic education which guides each child on their unique journey to becoming global citizens whilst sustaining their strong cultural heritage.

AISVN is dedicated to delivering the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) to the highest of standards. This framework ensures that students are engaged in a learning environment which allows them to explore and develop their passions with a strong sense of personal agency and responsibility.  We challenge children to inquire and collaborate in order to develop knowledge, skills and conceptual understandings which will equip them to be adaptable and resilient life long learners who are equipped to contribute positively to local and global communities.

At AISVN we are proud of our students’ academic success and ensure that each individual child is closely supported in their educational journey in order to maximize their potential for growth and development.  In addition, we are equally committed to engaging students in holistic, transdisciplinary learning experiences which allow them to flourish and explore their interests in a wide range of rich engagements.  Whether playing sports, on the performance stage, participating in field trips or when serving others, we aim for our students to have the courage to push the boundaries of their potential and explore all of the opportunities that are available to them.

As the foundation of all that we do, at AISVN we are dedicated to engaging all of our students and their families in a caring and supportive community.  We have strong convictions to deliver an education which empowers those in our care to experience the excitement of discovering that they can achieve far more than they ever thought possible.

We hope our website provides a window into the exceptional educational community we have here in the Elementary school at AISVN and we hope that you will be able to visit or join us to see for yourself what makes us truly special.

Kind regards,

Elementary School
Grades 1-5

Like our Khám Phá Early Years program our Elementary School students are inspired to learn through a model of structured and guided inquiry in a challenging and engaging environment.

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme is a curriculum framework designed for students aged 3 to 12. The PYP transdisciplinary framework focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both at school and beyond. Informed by research into how students learn, how educators teach, and the principles and practice of effective assessment, the programme places a powerful emphasis on inquiry-based learning.

Inquiry learning is a form of active learning where students will construct knowledge of the world around them through exploration and experiences.

Units of inquiry we will explore:

  • How We Express Ourselves
  • Who We Are
  • How the World Works
  • How We Organize Ourselves
  • Sharing the Planet
  • Where We Are in Place and Time

WHAT DO THE STUDENTS LEARN IN THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL?

Our homeroom learning programme is underpinned by 4 core curriculum subject areas;

  • Mathematics
  • English Language Arts
  • Science
  • Social Studies

The core classroom subjects are supplemented by specialist subjects in which students participate and learn each week. The specialist subjects are;

  • Physical Education
  • Visual Arts
  • Music
  • Drama
  • Vietnamese

The curriculum standards that guide learning in the Elementary School are drawn from the American based AERO Standards. AERO provides a framework for curriculum consistency across grades K-12 specifically for overseas schools.

Working in harmony with the curriculum standards is the framework of the IB Primary Years Programme which ensures that learning experiences are connected to the real world, teaching instruction is evidence based and students are regularly assessed to ensure that development and progress are measured.

How do the students learn in the Elementary School?

Each learning experience is deliberately and thoughtfully planned by our teams of educators. Units of inquiry are designed using the framework of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP).

Our learning spaces and purpose designed classrooms provide students the opportunity to choose activities and spaces to learn within the units of inquiry which helps build their sense of inquiry and curiosity. Students are encouraged to think, inquire, communicate, and care.

They also practice being open-minded, balanced, principled, knowledgeable and to take risks. All while interacting with their peers and teachers in a fun and safe environment!
