Mr. Barry joined AISVN in July 2019. He has more than 25 years teaching and administrative experience in Canada, Singapore, Thailand, Tanzania and Cambodia. He has served as head of school in these latter three countries for the past 19 years - each of them IB World Schools.
Mr. Barry serves on the EARCOS (the East Asia Regional Council of Schools) Board of Directors. He also leads school inspections throughout the world for the Council of International Schools (CIS) and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC); the same two accrediting bodies which accredit AISVN.
Mr. Ross is originally from Scotland in the United Kingdom and spent 10 years as a teacher and school leader in Melbourne, Australia. Most recently he worked as Elementary School Deputy Principal in a highly regarded K-12 independent school. Before that, Mr. Ross has also worked in leadership roles relating to Learning Technologies and Innovation as well as Head of Physical Education & Sport in Australia and the United Kingdom. Mr. Ross was selected to be part of the National Emerging Leaders Program in Australia in 2016 and was part of the coveted Google Teacher Academy in 2015.
His passion is working with children and teachers to ensure the highest quality of learning every day, inspiring curiosity, wonder, resilience and imagination.
Mr. Ross especially enjoys playing sports, reading books and playing the guitar. Outside of school, Mr. Ross enjoys being the parent of two girls, spending time with friends and exploring the wonders of Ho Chi Minh City.
Ms. Sally joined AISVN in 2021 as the Secondary Assistant Principal, coming from Latvia. Previously she has worked in education in Canada, Bahrain, Vietnam, Azerbaijan, Singapore, Georgia and Albania as a teacher and an administrator. Ms. Sally has extensive experience with 3 IB programmes and regularly contributes to the IB community by leading workshops and participating in site visits.
Ms. Sally was excited about the prospect of returning to Vietnam to continue exploring the country and enjoying the food! When not immersed in the world of education, she likes to read, take pilates classes, swim and dive.
Dr. Chandra Michael McGowan joined the American International School Vietnam community in 2020 as the Secondary Principal. She received her Doctorate in International Education from George Mason University and has served as a Service as Action, MYP, and DP Coordinator and has taught Secondary Mathematics and Theory of Knowledge in the United States, Finland, and Germany.
Dr. Chandra also is passionate about collaborating with educators from all over the world to develop globally minded schools. She has recently completed a certificate in School Management and Leadership from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and aims to support the development and capacity of achievement in the Secondary School community.
Ms. Tracy joined AISVN in 2019. Prior to working at AISVN, Ms. Tracy's career spans 26 years and five countries, UK, Mexico, Colombia, Russia and Cambodia. Ms. Tracy started her career as a teacher in England and has worked in various capacities in school leadership, curriculum coordination and latterly as a school Principal. Ms. Tracy’s latest role has been Head of School at an international school in Cambodia.
Ms. Tracy is a lead educator, consultant and school visitor team leader for the International Baccalaureate (IB). The work of an IB educator takes her to different schools around the world, supporting teachers, evaluating schools to be authorized, evaluating the implementation of the curriculum and acting as a remote consultant for schools.
Ms. Tracy is passionate about implementing school improvement initiatives and supporting the inclusive approach that all students can learn. She enjoys working with parents and students to support the school’s mission and vision.
Mr. Balo joined AISVN in 2016. He has over 26 years of experience in education as a teacher and administrator. Prior to working at AISVN he worked in Bangkok as Assistant Principal for Sports and Activities at Bangkok Patana School in Thailand, and as Athletic Director at the Canadian International School of Hong Kong. Mr. Balo's professional development is extensive and on-going with an emphasis in IB and providing children with multiple opportunities to reach their full potential.
Ms. Karin joins the AISVN as the Primary Years Programme Coordinator. She taught early years, elementary and high school for ten years in California before moving to the east coast of the United States, where she was an Educational Consultant for a major educational publishing house. She earned her Masters Degree in Curriculum, Instruction and Technology before moving overseas to begin her international teaching career. Ms. Karin has worked in international schools in Nigeria, South Korea, Romania, Netherlands, Germany, India, Dubai and China. With over 30 years as an educator, she has been a Teacher, Curriculum Coordinator, Grade level Leader, Head of Department, Elementary Principal and Director of Theatre Arts. In addition, Ms. Karin is an experienced member of the International Baccalaureate Educator Network, and leads workshops around the world on how to implement the PYP.
Ms. Karin comes to Vietnam with her two rescue cats, Pumpkin and Pookie. Ms.Karin is an avid traveler (Vietnam is her 94th country!), and loves to cook, listen to podcasts and is looking forward to exploring all that Vietnam has to offer! She is delighted to be joining AISVN's learning community.
Ms. Emma Burns joined the team at AISVN in August 2021. Prior to coming to Ho Chi Minh City, Emma has worked in international schools in Germany, Azerbaijan, Vietnam (Hanoi), and Australia in a wide variety of positions, from teacher-librarian in the early years all the way through to high school music teacher, and many other ages and subjects in between. Her varied experiences mean that she has a detailed understanding of how IB philosophy connects and progresses through year levels and across subject areas. As coordinator of MYP Service as Action and Personal Projects in a number of schools, she has worked with teachers to implement a challenging and engaging curriculum, and helped to lead schools through successful MYP authorization.
Since 2017, Emma has also worked as a workshop leader and school visitor for the IB. In this role, she has the opportunity to travel to schools all over the world and support teachers in their MYP professional development. She has presented in international conferences on research skills across the curriculum, interdisciplinary teaching and learning, and the role of skills in the middle years. Emma is excited to return to Vietnam and be a part of a diverse and experienced team dedicated to providing an enriching educational experience to all students.
Ms. Sandy started her career in California teaching English Learners in second-grade followed by nine years of teaching upper elementary level students from diverse backgrounds. She earned her Master’s degree in Educational Administration and became an elementary school principal for five years. She then moved on to become an Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services where she supported curriculum and instruction at fifteen elementary and middle schools whose student populations represented 30 different languages.
Ms. Sandy came to Vietnam with her husband Mr. Mario. They both enjoy traveling, kayaking, and all sports, as well as learning new customs and languages.
Mrs. Lam joined the AISVN Elementary in July, 2009. She has 5 years of teaching assistant and teaching Vietnamese experience in international schools in Ho Chi Minh City, 3 year experience as coordinator and 1 year experience as manager in Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten School. With her love for children and her passion for work, Mrs. Lam always wishes to bring students lessons that are light, fun, interesting and useful. Mrs. Lam is very happy to be a part of AISVN team.
Ms. Tuyet joined AISVN in 2007. Up to now, she has 12 years of teaching experience. She was successful in applying the experiences that she has collected from the elementary schools in HCMC, such as: Nguyen Binh Khiem, Ho Thi Ky…into teaching at AISVN. Besides, she has got many opportunities to learn more about new teaching methods from expat teachers come from America, Canada, Australia, etc. into the teaching lesson. To her, student is a precious pearl that every teacher must try all their best to make the pearl keep shinning and shinning.
