Mr.Sam Rhodes, Math teacher, has just announced the Top 14 8th grade students who have extremely high scores on both Algebra and Geometry pretests at the beginning of the school year. They are all selected to take High school Geometry course. By joining this course, student will be given one high school math credit, and will take algebra and geometry simultaneously.
At American schools, Geometry has normally been taught to students in grade 9 or grade 10. High school students have to study Geometry (grade 9 or 10) before taking Algebra II (grade 10 or grade 11). This means that upon entering high school, the student will go directly into Algebra II (normally for 10th or 11th graders) and will have the opportunity to take more advanced math courses later in high school. These courses will give the student an advantage when applying to selective colleges, and may even qualify them for college credit.
